Relevance to Innovation and Systems-Minded Funders

These developments match the increasing search within foundations and individual donors for more strategic and systematic approaches to funding development programs and projects [1]. The piece-meal approach is becoming less and less attractive because the problems refuse to go away as they are embedded in complex systemic causes that are rarely being addressed. Hence many of these piece-meal programs and projects do not really address the escalation of challenges to humanity and the planet.

This proposal seeks to maintain as well as intensify the momentum of the above successes. SEA’s volunteer efforts have helped power many of the above developments. SEA is seeking a necessary infusion of financial resources that would sustain the effort [2]

This proposal is ambitious. But it is born not out of arrogance, but rather on the inspiration of having engaged in complex sustainable development work in the past months, with outstanding success. If SEA helped facilitate the above results on the basis of volunteer time, what more could be achieved if SEA has a secure base of financial support.

With the focus of attention and energy that will result, and with the pipeline of sub-programs and projects being proposed, then Zarraga will continue to be the premier example of how a cluster of innovations, fueled by wide-ranging partnerships, can transform a very low-performing apathetic town in a premier example of inclusive, holistic, and integral sustainable development.
