The Sta. Barbara CIT Regular Monthly Meeting on November 15, 2024, at Zórion Resto Bar was not just a routine gathering. It was a vibrant exchange of insights, reflections, and strategies aimed at driving sustainable development and strengthening collaboration among civil society organizations (CSOs) and stakeholders. With key personalities like Gemma Sumague (Chair, P4MP), Maam Ethel Sucilla (representing BUGANA MSMEI), and Elsie Dujon (SBIMFA Chair) in attendance, the meeting highlighted the transformative power of the Inner Conditioning Workshop (ICW) and laid the groundwork for future initiatives. The graduates of the Inner Conditioning Workshop were eager to share how the program reshaped their perspectives, approaches, and decision-making processes. “CSOs aren’t stress-makers—they’re sources of inspiration.” For Maam Ethel, the ICW reignited her passion for empowering the basic masses. It allowed her to view opportunities with a deliberate bias toward CSOs and barangay groups (BGs), recognizing their achievements as vital contributions rather than burdens to the government. “Wala na ako gahibi sa stress.” As the Chair of the Sta. Barbara Integrated Mushroom Farmers Association, Maam Elsie juggles multiple roles, from leading Farmers Week celebrations to handling organizational obligations. Thanks to ICW, she found healthier ways to manage stress and anger, transforming her outlook on leadership and teamwork. “ICW enhanced my knowledge, boosted my enthusiasm, and fueled my burning desire for sustainable development.” As Vice Chair of SBIMFA and CIT Chair, Sir Julroy embodies the ICW spirit of forward-thinking leadership. He hopes the next batch of participants will experience the same transformation, equipping Sta. Barbara with more individuals who can think, work, and live with purpose and impact.
The meeting also tackled plans for the upcoming ICW Batch 2. Participants from Sta. Barbara is set to embark on their journey, with logistics such as flight bookings and airport pickups already in motion. The goal? To cultivate another generation of empowered leaders ready to make a difference in their communities.
Looking ahead, the CIT mapped out several initiatives during the meeting, including:
  • Orientation on the IPAT SIAD Program: Introducing participants to integrated, participatory approaches for area development.
  • Action Planning: A collaborative effort to align priorities and strategies for maximum impact.
  • Capacity Building and Skills Enhancement: Ensuring members are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed for sustainable growth.
  • Collaboration Opportunities: Identifying key areas where CSOs and government can work hand-in-hand.
These plans reflect the CIT’s unwavering commitment to fostering development that uplifts all sectors, particularly the grassroots. The collective energy and insights from the meeting showcased the power of collaboration and shared vision. The ICW’s transformative effect on its graduates serves as a beacon for the next batch, promising a ripple effect of positive change across Sta. Barbara. As Ma’am Ethel aptly put it, “Empowerment begins with seeing opportunities for those who need them most.” And with leaders like her, Maam Elsie, and Sir Julroy at the helm, Sta. Barbara’s future shines brighter than ever.
