Zarraga set the stage for a green revolution at the 2nd Regional Organic Agriculture Summit, held in the heart of the municipality. The event, which kicked off with an exciting fun run and bike run, proved that when it comes to promoting organic agriculture, Zarraga is ready to race ahead.
With an estimated 500 participants from DA Region VI, partner agencies, neighboring municipalities, biker associations, farmers, students, and local leaders, the summit was a true testament to community collaboration. It wasn’t just about talking organic—it was about running, biking, and connecting with the earth.
The summit featured a series of exciting events, including the launch of the Garden Area for Initiatives in Action (GAIA) and the Organic Trading Post (OTP), marking significant milestones for Zarraga’s organic agriculture movement. Joyce Wendam, the Region 6 Focal Person on Organic Agriculture, energized the crowd with her address, encouraging everyone to continue pushing for sustainable farming practices.
In a fun twist, GMA 7 was on hand to interview Tay Sid, a farmer from Zarraga’s GAIA Techno Demo Farm in Inagdangan Norte, giving viewers an inside look at the practical application of organic farming. It was a moment of pride for the town, showcasing how local initiatives are paving the way for a greener future.
The highlight of the summit? Buy Organic! Local leaders, led by Zarraga’s Municipal Mayor, supported the cause by buying organic products from the Zarraga Organic Trading Post during its opening. It wasn’t just a symbolic gesture—it was a call to action for everyone to invest in healthier, locally-grown food.
With the summit’s success, Zarraga has firmly planted its roots as a leader in organic agriculture, and the momentum is only growing. Here’s to more fun runs, bike rides, and a future filled with fresh, organic produce!
