It wasn’t just another training day—it was a day when ordinary citizens learned how to become everyday heroes. The Basic First Aid and Life Support Training held in Barangay Jelicuon Este, New Lucena was more than a workshop; it was a powerful reminder that preparedness and unity can turn fear into courage and community into family.
Through the partnership between the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) – NLERT, led by Sir Kenneth Sobremisana, and the dedicated leadership of Punong Barangay John Dennis E. Solas, the training brought together volunteers, youth, and barangay responders in one shared mission: to keep their community safe and ready for anything.
In his message, Punong Barangay Solas expressed heartfelt appreciation:
“To enhance our skills, especially among our volunteers, we requested this training. We are truly thankful to SEA for helping us connect with MDRRMO and for their continuous support to our barangay’s capacity-building efforts.”
For Sir Kenneth Sobremisana, it was a testament to the spirit of collaboration that drives progress:
“Thank you to SEA for helping us facilitate this kind of training. Without your support, our capacity-building efforts and accomplishments at MDRRMO would not have grown this much.”
Throughout the day, participants immersed themselves in real-life simulations—from managing wounds and fractures to performing CPR and responding to emergencies with steady hands and clear minds. Every demonstration was a lesson in confidence, empathy, and teamwork—reminding everyone that knowing what to do in the first few critical minutes can mean the difference between life and loss.
With floods and road accidents being common challenges in the area, the training became more than just a safety exercise—it was an act of empowerment. Volunteers walked away not only with new skills but with the assurance that they could protect their neighbors, friends, and families when it matters most.
As the sun set over Barangay Jelicuon Este, the faces of the trainees reflected more than just learning—they showed pride, readiness, and hope. The day ended with a renewed spirit of community resilience: a village more capable, more connected, and more courageous.
Because in Jelicuon Este, preparedness is not just a plan—it’s a promise.
And when hearts beat together with purpose and compassion, everyone can truly be a hero.
